U Can Finish.

October 24, 2011 by Carolina

It must be said: I love tapering! I’m now running low mileage in gorgeous weather & I’m loving it. This past week of training has been glorious…at least after the soreness from the 20-miler was gone. Not gonna lie, I had a hard time getting around for a couple of days but after massages, compression socks & lots of stretching I felt good. The rest of the week went as planned: nice, easy short runs, crossfit, yoga & the U Can Finish Distance Dare 7 Miler yesterday.

The last time I explored UCF was my senior year in high school when I did college preview — it’s been a long time. I enjoyed running through the beautiful campus, I didn’t realize it was so large. The route took us through most of the main buildings, the arena & the football stadium, in all I enjoyed the run. My calf started acting up around mile 3 (seriously calf, you were fine with 16 miles last week & now you’re bitching at mile 3? Lame!) but it didn’t stop me. I took a few walking breaks & got majorly chicked.

How badass is that? 82 & still rocking it — love! 10Ks are my favorite distance to run, 7 miles was just as enjoyable. This next two weeks before the New York City Marathon there is only one goal: Enjoy running. Here’s what’s on deck this week:

Marathon Training Week of 10/24:

Today: Crossfit + 4 miles, fun

Tuesday: 4 miles, easy

Wednesday: Hip Hop Hustle

Thursday: Rest

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 8 miles, easy

Sunday: Yoga

I want to get back in touch with what made me fall in love with running & enjoy the ride. I’ve got one more long-ish run & then it’s marathon time! It’s so close I can taste it. The next two weeks will be full of hidration, protein & preparations for the big day. Stay tuned!

What’s your favorite distance to run and why?

  1. That 82 year old is at every local race and she ALWAYS wears that shirt. My fitness instructor saw her at the Miracle Miles 15k and she REFUSED to be passed by her. LOL So she ran faster just so she didn’t have to see the back of her shirt.

  2. Fun! I would love to do a race/fun run around a college campus. There are always so many pretty buildings, pedestrian friendly areas, and fun things to see. Older campuses even have the really pretty trees to check out.

  3. My favorite distance is either 5k or 4 miles, just because it’s enough to get me moving and especially with 5k distance, I can “race myself” to make it a speed workout and try to beat a previous time!

  4. Love that pink shirt! I think it’s safe to say that Gasparilla is worth running for the shirts alone!

Yay on a great race — and that lady’s shirt is AWESOME. I want to be running when I’m 82!!

  5. 10k are my favorite distance… but I have done a few 5 milers that are also great… you work hard for a long time, but don’t completely die!

  6. yes, taper is good if you do it right. Which you are! ENJOY RUNNING> Find that passion again. Great call!

  7. 10ks are my favorite too! I’m struggling to pick up my speed on the shorter runs, but I’m really comfortable with my 10k jog. You hit a great rhythm and it just flies!

  8. I ran this race last year on a whim and loved it! Mainly I spent it thinking “why didn’t they have this when I was a student?” to myself.

I love your pose at the end. Please do this at least once during the NY Marathon. Good luck girl, I’ll be living vicariously through you!

  9. My favorite distance to run on my own is four miles. It’s easy to fit in during the week and I can do it in my own neighborhood.

  10. YEY UCF! You were literally 10 minutes from my home :)

  11. That photo of your is adorable! Glad you’re enjoying your short(er) runs. You’re almost there!!

  12. Carolina, you are so adorable! I want to look that good running.

Enjoy the taper – you have earned it!
