As in I literally run the streets of Orlando. This weekend I got to run all through Downtown Orlando for Track Shack’s Miracle Miles 15K. Since it was my second time doing this race (I ran it last year while training for my second half marathon) I knew to expect lots of traffic getting there; this is a very popular race in town. I was hoping to catch several bloggers running the race: Michelle, Victoria, Paula & Dina, but was only able to spot Dina who rocked her first 15K — go girl!
It was a ridiculously hot day, thick humidity filled the air but there were no excuses: we were all in it to finish. My run started out great, I was feeling good up until mile 5 when once again, my left calf started to hurt. Eversince I ran the not-so-sweet 16 my left calf has been hurting about 4 – 5 miles into a run. I’ve never experience this & am really not sure what led to it. All you runners out there — any suggestions? I’m thinking about scheduling an appointment with my doctor, I’m only 6 weeks away from the marathon & don’t want to risk anything. But I digress…Around mile 5 my calf started to act up so I started to slow down & decided to do walking intervals the rest of the way. I typically don’t run walk (intervals I do go from normal to easy pace) & I find it really hard to start running once I’ve slowed down, but it worked. I was able to cross the finish line, stretch out & feel back to normal by the end of the day. Thumbs up!
I have another local race in about a month, then the marathon. Time’s winding down so training must happen! Here’s what I have going on this week…
Marathon Training Week of 9/26:
Today: Crossfit & Yoga
Tuesday: Intervals, 40 mins
Wednesday: 5 miles & Turbo Kick
Saturday: 18 miles, easy
As you can see, I have a lot of yoga planned this week (more on that later) & the longest distance I’ve ever ran: 18 miles. Not gonna lie, I’m a little terrified but it’s going down. This weekend I will run this city like it’s my job. Watch out!
