We had lunch with a friend the other day and she suggested walking to the light house in Kommetjie. Reminds me why I love living in South Africa.
Surfers…the water had to have been freezing! I guess that’s what a wet suit is for!
We have such good friends here. So lucky!

And now on to this apple sauce…love it. That’s all I have to say. I don’t know if I could eat apple sauce out of a jar anymore. This is so much tastier–and really, it’s super easy.
Ingredients

Bag of apples (8-ish), I prefer granny smith, skins removed and sliced or chopped
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
cinnamon, to taste

Directions

Combine ingredients in sauce pan. Bring to boil and let simmer for 15-20 minutes (until apples are soft). Mash with hand-mixer or potato masher. I use a potato masher for a chunkier sauce.

That’s it. Delicious homemade apple sauce! This is out-of-this-world-good warmed up and served over waffles or pancakes.

  1. I love making homemade apple sauce. It’s really easy if you have a lot of time on your hands. I leave my skins on and don’t mash them, I just let them cook for hours until they’re apple mush. :) Last year, I bought a pint of apples from an orchard and couldn’t possibly eat them fast enough so making apple sauce as a necessity.

  2. Hmm, that apple sauce sounds good without mashing it up…and then putting it on top of some vanilla ice cream. Yum! < —- only thinks about desserts, it's true

  3. My grandma used to make homemade applesauce…I have not had any in 20 years I’ll bet!

    • mine too! she’s the one that got me hooked on using it on waffles/pancakes. Store bought versions def. can’t compete with Grandmas version!

  4. Thanks for stopping by earlier today! Cute blog. Love the fonts too :)

  5. I’ll admit, I’ve never had homemade apple sauce (not a huge fan). This recipe seems so easy it might turn me into an apple sauce convert :)
