Spanish Sangria.

December 22, 2010 by Carolina

Sangria is a staple in most Hispanic households over the holidays. I went home to Miami this past weekend for a Christmas gathering & made sangria for my friends — it was a hit! This recipe is simple, authentic & delicious. Give it a try this holiday season.

1 Lemon, sliced & quartered

1 Lime, sliced & quartered

1 Orange, sliced & quartered

10 Strawberries, diced

1 Apple, diced

1 1/2 Cups of Rum

1/2 Cup of White Sugar

1 Bottle of Rioja Wine (you can use any dry wine if you can’t find Rioja)

In a pitcher, combine the lemon, lime, orange, strawberries & apple.

Mix in the sugar & rum, chill mixture for at least 3 hours. Right before you’re ready for a drink, mix ingredients again, slightly crushing some of the citrus to bring out flavor. Stir in the wine & you’re all set. If you like your sangria on the sweeter side, go ahead & add a little bit more sugar. If you like it on the tart side, add 1/2 cup of orange juice.

Simple & delicious, the perfect drink to enjoy with friends this holiday season. Salud!
