If you read my post on climbing an active volcano, you know that I’m traveling through Africa with my husband. We’ve lived in South Africa for four years, but hadn’t been beyond Southern Africa until earlier this year, it’s been an amazing trip! We’re currently in Botswana, we’ll hit Namibia tomorrow and then be way back to South Africa for Christmas.
Finding quality vegetarian options in Africa can sometimes be a bit challenge, but for Thanksgiving this year, we had just left the DRC and were in Kigali so we went to Hotel des Mille Collines for our Thanksgiving lunch. You might remember the name because of the movie Hotel Rwanda.
We ate pool side and the vegetarian options were limited, but I had a wonderful Caprese salad. I’ve eaten a LOT of chips (french fries) this trip, so it was a nice change.
They had apple pie on the menu, but were all out, so we stopped at a ex-pat favorite, Bourbon Coffee, for Rwandan coffee and their version of apple pie with vanilla ice cream.
We even proved ourselves to be diehard Americans and did some black friday shopping online via our iphone and Rwanda’s 3G network before heading to Tanzania to take in the Serengeti for the weekend. Definitely a Thanksgiving to remember!
