Addis in Cape, Cape Town, SA.
January 7, 2012 by CarolinaWhen in Rome do as the Romans do & when in Africa, do as the Africans do. Katie & I headed to downtown Cape Town to have authentic Ethiopian food at Addis in Cape in honor of my visit to South Africa. Both Katie & I love Ethiopian food & figured it would taste even better when made authetically in Africa — we were right.
Since Ethiopian food is eaten with your hands the meal starts off with washing them.
We were thrilled to discover a full vegetarian & vegan menu with fantastic choices. Katie & I settled on the vegetarian lunch platter composed of Misir Wot (split red lentils), Shimbera Asa Wot (chickpeas in Berbere sauce), Mushroom Wot (mushrooms in Berbere sauce), Kek Alicha Wot (sauteed chickpeas with garlic, ginger & tumeric), Defin Misir Alicha (lentils with white mushrooms) & Tomato Salad.
The food was amazing, packed with African spices & full of flavor. Katie & I ate every single thing on the plate, no bite left behind.
Katie had visited Addis in Dar while in Tanzania & knew we would love their Cape Town location; it’s truly a great restaurant for a vegetarian with a ton of choices. Ethiopian food is the best!
Have you tried Ethiopian food? What’s your favorite ethnic food?

I’m reading Cutting for Stone right now and it’s set in Addis Ababa and that’s immediately what I thought of when I saw your post
I LOOOOVE ethiopian food – there’s a place in Boston called Addis Red Sea that my sister, brother-in-law and I used to go to all the time together. SO SO good!

I’ve never had Ethiopian food, but I’d love to try it. I’m currently loving Thai & Indian food…
