Fit Peas: Disney’s Wine & Dine Half Marathon.
October 5, 2010 by CarolinaThe 13.1 miles of the Wine & Dine Half Marathon, conquered. This was my second half marathon but my first at night. Also unique: running it with one of my best friends (I ran alone last time), being part of an inagural event, & walking around Epcot afterwards for the Disney’s Food & Wine Festival.
Most races are typically first thing in the morning so I had no idea what to eat the day of the race. I ended up going with fruit, granola & yogurt as my pre-race dinner.
After the race we decided to cash in our free food and drink coupons (part of the registration fee for the race) — we were starving! Our legs were killing us so we stayed close to the finish line, hung out in Canada & Ireland, only to find there are very few vegetarian options offered at the festival besides dessert. I was excited to see Cheddar & Potato Soup on the Canada menu but discovered it had bacon in it as soon as I tried it. Melyssa enjoyed the soup for me.
Still starving we wondered over to Ireland where I found the only item I tried at the festival, a cheese plate with bread and some fruit concoction. Needless to say, I was slightly disappointed.
Luckily beer is vegetarian, I used my drink coupon to enjoy delicious Moosehead beer. We were too tired to wonder around so we called it a night & slept like babies.
I’ve been sore the last couple of days, nursing bad knees but that’s not unusual for me. At the end of the day, pain & all, few things compare to the feeling you get crossing the finish line — talk about runners’ high! I did it guys!
