I just passed the halfway mark on the 30 day yoga challenge & so far I’m feeling great! I’m loving practicing almost daily, carving out time to tune the world out & just focus on my mind, body & soul — it’s fantastic. As I practice more I’m growing bolder, trying to hit poses I’ve never been able to do before. Try as I might though, for whatever reason, I can’t seem to master the crow pose. I have now deemed crow my yogini holy grail.
What is crow (pictured above)? Here are the basic mechanics of the pose:
- Open your feet wider than the yoga mat, bend kneeds & bring your palms flat on the floor about shoulder distance apart
- Place your knees on the back of the upper arms, towards your arm pits
- Find a focus point at the front of your mat to stare at & begin to come forward
- Start by taking one feet of the floor, then the other, to gage how forward you need to go in order to balance with both feet off the mat
That ladies & gents, is crow. Try as I might I can’t seem to lift my feet for more than like 2 seconds, not gonna lie, I’m a tad bit frustrated with this pose. Yesterday I tried crow & failed again, then my instructor said, “Yoga teaches you about life, even if you can’t do something you keep trying. Don’t give up.” One of my favorite things to say is “where there’s a will there’s a way” so you better believe I’m not giving up on this pose; I will master it by the end of the year (if I’m VERY lucky by the end of the challenge, but I’d be happy with the end of the year). Mark my words!
So why am I sitting here telling you about crow kicking my bootie? Because it’s a good reminder not to give up on whatever it is you or me are working towards. Whether it’s becoming a vegetarian, finding a healthier lifestyle, starting to run, becoming a yogi, the path is not going to be easy — but you can & will do it. Don’t give up; commit!
What’s your “crow”? What’s the thing you’re working towards you can’t seem to achieve…just yet? I’d love to encourage you along the way so leave it on the comments, would love to hear from you!
