Pregnancy Update – 31 weeks!

October 12, 2012 by Katie

Every pregnancy experience is different, and while I haven’t had any crazy cravings – I have been pretty particular about what sounds good. Lately, it seems that is Chipotle (usually a homemade version), veggies and couscous and grilled cheese. None of which make very exciting blog posts.

So, I was very excited to make homemade granola this week, however, this would turn into a “what not to do” post regarding homemade granola. Primarily because I burnt it. At first, I thought it would be edible, but the longer it sat, the more it dried out and the worse it tasted. I’ll keep you posted on round 2!

So, instead – you get a 31 week pregnancy update!

Still Active
One week shy of 8 months and I think one of the reasons I have felt pretty good, is because I’ve been staying active. I walk about 2.5 to 3 miles a day. Here are some interesting articles on the benefits of pregnancy and exercise.

I am having some back pain – mainly while sitting at my desk at work. I’m working on maintaining good posture and getting up to take walks periodically (my small bladder tends to help with this…).

Here are some great articles outlining the benefits of exercise while pregnant:

Eating Well…for the most part
While I do occasionally indulge in a can of soda or some chocolate (okay, so the chocolate might be daily), I’ve been able to focus on eating healthy throughout my pregnancy.

My iron levels are higher than normal, which is encouraging as a vegetarian. I make a concentrated effort to make sure I’m getting enough protein during the day. I do this through nuts, seeds, greek yogurt, beans and cheese. Once and awhile we’ll eat veggie burgers – but typically on nights I don’t feel like really cooking since they’re so processed.

Other Preparations
We have a one-bedroom apartment in downtown Boston- so there’s no nursery to decorate. But, we have purchased some additional furniture to make room for the baby’s things. We also bought our stroller a few weeks ago. I fell in love with this – but couldn’t stomach the price. So we bought one gently used for a fraction of the original price.

We’ll use the bassinet until we need the crib (we’re not setting it up until we need it). After our showers, we’ll have a better idea of what we need to buy.

Alright mamas – what tips do you have for me as a finish out the last few weeks of pregnancy?
