Affordable Yoga.
April 17, 2012 by CarolinaLet’s be honest: Yoga can be expensive. When I first started practicing I had sticker shock, going to a proper studio can really add up! Though you can do yoga everywhere, I highly recommend practicing at a studio or venue where you’re lead by an instructor. Hands-on instructors are key to proper alignment, betterment of poses & overall reaping more benefits from yoga.
The good news is you don’t always have to pay the high prices to practice yoga. Throughout my time practicing yoga I’ve come across several opportunies to practice yoga free or at a very minimal cost. Are you ready to get your asana on & keep your pockets/wallet happy? Here we go!
Use Your Student Discount: If you’re a student you’re in luck because most studios in town offer a student discount (saving you anywhere from $2 – $5). Every little bit helps so bring your student ID next time you visit a yoga studio.

Lululemon Yoga: Lululemon is great with holding free community classes for the public, all you have to do is check your local Lululemon’s store Community Calendar (in Orlando they offer yoga on Sundays at 9:30a). Lululemon also hosts Salutation Nation every year in September, a free event to the public where the entire nation practices yoga at the same time of the day. I went last year (it was before Rasa-Lila Fest) & will definitely be back again!
The Water Project: This first opportunity is for Central Floridians, happening this weekend. The Rollins College Yoga Club is hosting a donation-only event this Saturday, 4/21 from 9:30 – Noon at the college. Full Circle’s Rob Hefele is teaching the class & he’s fantastic! Plus, all proceeds will go to The Water Project, a foundation dediccated to provide fresh water in underdeveloped nations.
Everything Zen Yoga: Also in Central Florida, the first and last Saturday of every month Laura from Amplified Culture is teaching karma yoga at Everything Zen. The only cost of this class is a $5 donation. We’ve met Laura on several occassions before (including Rasa-Lila Fest last year) & she’s awesome, we will be checking this out very soon!
College Park Yoga: Every Saturday College Park Yoga in Orlando offers a community class at 9am for $5. This studio is great, we’ve been a few times & have always enjoyed the practice there. This is a steal!
Orlando Power Yoga: Every Saturday Orlando Power Yoga offers all classes for $8, a great deal for amazing hot yoga classes. We’ve been several times before & the classes are worth every penny, truly a great set of instructors. Check out our thoughts here.
There you have it, plenty of options to practice yoga free or at minimal costs. What are you waiting for? Grab your mat & get out there.
Speaking of getting out there — guess who just became a FitFluential Ambassador? That’s right! FitFluential is a network of bloggers commitment to healthy living & fitness; it’s a great fit for us. What does this mean for Peas in a Blog you ask? More opportunities to share great fitness finds, products, etc. We’re excited to share these with you!
Now, tell me, what’s your favorite local yoga studio? Even if you’re not in Central Florida, let’s hear it! I like to check out studios whenever I can while traveling.

While I’ve never had the opportunity to go to a “real” yoga studio, my gym (Diamond Fitness) offers classes 6 times a week. $26 bucks a month for membership (including all classes & equipment) and I usually make it to yoga class 1 – 3 times a week. I totally love my instructor as well. You can find yoga for less than an arm and a leg (nice, well toned and strong ones, at that).
Great post. Everyone should try yoga!

I had no idea that Lulumon offered free yoga classes – it looks like my local one offers one every Sunday from 12-1! Thanks for sharing, I like free!

Thanks for making me famous! Ha!
We definitely need to plan a yoga date ASAP. I do DT on Saturday mornings, but let me know your schedule. Are you still doing Full Circle on Sundays?
