Olympics 2012.
July 30, 2012 by CarolinaHave you been watching The Olympics? I’ve been glued to the TV all weekend (thank you DVR!) catching my favorite sports, feeling completely inspired by all these incredible athletes. Julie from Wearing Mascara said it best on Twitter when she said “I love the Olympics because it celebrates healthy and strong female and male bodies. They are so strong from the inside and out!” The Olympics, without a doubt, is the greatest competition in the world of sports, we all know that. But it’s not only about seeing countries win (go USA, Colombia & Spain!), it’s also about the incredible athletes that bring home an important message: strong & healthy is the way to be.
And so every four years I find myself completely inspired by the Olympic athletes, the celebration of health, hardwork & perseverance, the fabulous example they set. These athletes train their entire lives for a moment of glory: lots of work, sweat & tears. I take their testimonies as inspiration when I’m out for a swim, or for a run, or doing CrossFit — These athletes are leaving it all out on the floor & so can I.
I know I will never have the honor of competing in the Olympics games but I do have the chance to empower my body everyday, just like they do. When I see Ryan Lochte flip a tractor tire during his home interview I’m reminded I can do the same. When I celebrate Colombian cyclist Rigoberto Uran winning silver in the road race I think of all of you who love to bike or do triathlons. And when I watch the marathoners run 26.2 grueling miles I think back to my experience at the ING NYC Marathon.
All this to say that I want to take the time to celebrate not just the Olympics but the inspiration they breathe to you, me & the entire world. Garner the inspiration beaming from the TV screen & start being active, even if its just going on a long walk, a short swim or a quick class — every journey starts with a single step. Let’s join the Olympians in celebrating strong bodies, inside & out!
