Meet the Girls: CrossFit Barbara.
May 29, 2012 by CarolinaA couple of weeks ago I mentioned getting question about CrossFit benchmark workouts aka “the girls”. CrossFit is all about getting stronger, so having the girls as benchmarks is a great way to track your progress. Last time I introduced you to CrossFit Betty & today I’m going to introduce you to Barbara. Readers, meet saucy CrossFit Barb:
CrossFit Barbara
20 pull-ups
30 push-ups
40 sit-ups
50 squats
5 rounds, 3 minute rest between each round
I to do Barbara at home because it’s one of the easier ones to do outside of a CrossFit gym — you need no equipment. Since you’re trying to gage your progress it’s important to make sure you give it your all, you are doing this workout for time. If you’re doing this right, as you do the Barbara every few months or so you should shave off some time, getting faster & stronger along the way.
Barbara & I got acquainted a couple of weeks ago when I decided to try her out at home (I work out once a week with my CrossFit group then do homework workouts on my own at home). I’m not going to lie & tell you Barbara is easy cause she sure isn’t, then again, none of the CrossFit workouts are. And that’s why CrossFit is so great — it pushes you hard! It encourages you to think of yourself as an athlete, training, putting in hard work. The more you do it the stronger you feel, it’s quite addicting.
Now that you know Barbara take her out for a spin & let me know how it goes. I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
Have you tried CrossFit yet?

I don’t think I could do ONE pullup…

Errign, you can do modified pull ups with either a band or by using momentum (kipping pull up). Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7spRknkD1hU Those are the ones I do right now but I hope to get to do a straight up eventually.

I’ve still never tried Crossfit, but I plan on looking into it when I move next year!

I haven’t tried a real Cross Fit workout, but would love too!
I have tried a few Cross Fit inspired workouts with a boot camp I am participating in and they are intense -I think the workouts a pretty similar to Cross Fit. When you finish them though you feel so accomplished.

You totally feel like you can take over the world. I love that about CrossFit workouts!

20 pull ups scares the crud out of me. I don’t think I’ll be doing them very soon, but it would be cool to have that to build up to at some point.

They scare me too Victoria & I’ve been doing CrossFit for several months. I do my best to do them, sometimes I don’t struggle as much, sometimes they kill me. Key is to try!
