One of my favorite things to do is read, sometimes multiple books at a time. Since going on summer break from grad school I’ve only read one book, trying to give my brain time to recoup after a long semester of heavy reading. Now that I’ve had a breather I’m starting to read what I call “dessert books” — fun books that feel like a treat for me. From romance novels to fashion to cooking, dessert books are a breath of fresh air in the middle of philosophy, history & theology reading for me (I’m getting my Masters in Humanities).
One of the books I’ve been wanting to read for a while is Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Diet. As a vegetarian, I’m always looking for great books that will help me create more nutritious, balanced meals. Alicia breaks down the ugly truth about the food industry, how our food is processed, the importance of eating organic & advocates you to go vegan. The book is well written, thoughtful & insightful. It also comes with several delicious recipes I’m excited to try!
If you’re looking for a book to break down the reasons behind going vegan, or simply want to make small healthy changes to your lifestyle (she’s got several plans for you to try, from flirting with veganism, full fledge vegan & what she calls superhero, a macrobiotic vegan diet) you may want to pick up The Kind Diet.
